According to the US Fire Administration 2,900 home clothes dryer fires are reported each year and cause an estimated 5 deaths, 100 injuries, and $35 million in property loss. They also reported that the leading cause of home dryer fires is a failure to clean them. Keeping your dryer vent clean and functioning can be an easy task to overlook, but the last thing any of us want is to put ourselves and families at risk. That is why Da Vine Air is here to bring you some friendly tips on how to keep that pesky dryer vent clean!

Tip #1 Installation:

  • When putting in a new home dryer always remember to have to the professionals handle the installation.

  • Remember to carefully read the owner's manual for maintenance and safety tips

Tip #2 Usage:

  • Don't use a dryer without a functioning lint filter.

  • Don't overload the dryer with clothes.

  • Don't dry anything containing foam, rubber, plastic or glass.

  • Don't dry materials covered in something flammable or toxic, like alcohol, gasoline or acid.

Tip #3 Maintenance:

  • Make sure the outdoor vent opens when the dryer on and is not blocked by bug or animal nests.

  • Keep the area around the dryer free from easily flammable substances.

  • Disconnect your dryer from the heating source, if you will be gone for an extended period of time.

Tip#4 Cleaning:

  • Clean out the lint trap thoroughly after each use.

  • Clean the lint filter with a nylon brush every 6 months.

  • Clean lint out of the vent pipe every 3 months.

  • Have your dryer vent cleaned by a professional regularly depending on dryer usage (1 - 3 times a year)
